The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday took a cheeky dig at Pakistan by drawing a parallel between India's 2007 T20 World Cup bowl-out victory and the Indian armed forces' decisive Operation Sindoor against terror groups. In a 31-second video posted on its official 'X' handle, the BJP showcased the dramatic bowl-out from the inaugural T20 World Cup match, where India defeated Pakistan 3-0.
Captioning the clip with “Kuch aisa tha” (It was something like that), the BJP’s post was a not-so-subtle jab at Pakistan’s failed military retaliation following India’s Operation Sindoor — a high-precision counter-terror strike launched in response to the Pahalgam terror attack.
In the iconic 2007 game, Indian bowlers — Virender Sehwag, Harbhajan Singh, and Robin Uthappa — hit the stumps cleanly, while Pakistan’s bowlers missed every attempt. The BJP likened that clean sweep to the Indian defence systems’ total interception of Pakistan’s retaliatory drone and missile attacks, which failed to hit any Indian targets.
Operation Sindoor, launched on May 7, came after the deadly April 22 attack in Pahalgam that killed 26 civilians. India targeted and destroyed nine terror infrastructures belonging to Jaish-e-Mohammed, Hizbul Mujahideen, and Lashkar-e-Taiba in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, reportedly killing over 100 terrorists.
Pakistan's attempts at retaliation were swiftly neutralized by India’s air defence. Drones, UAVs, and missiles launched towards Indian bases in Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Gujarat were intercepted before they could cause damage. After four days of escalation, a ceasefire understanding was reached on May 10 and remains in effect.
